Our Board of Directors
Samantha Fanj_1oy President
Samantha grew up in Milo, Maine, where she loved playing sports (particularly soccer), as well as practicing the clarinet, painting, drawing, and drama club.
Sam has traveled to many incredible places, including Ireland, Romania, and Italy, yet still finds herself telling locals about the beauty of her home state and why they should visit. She feels lucky to call Maine home.
After high school, she earned a degree in Economics with a minor in Business, and certificate in Accounting from UMO. As her family grew, they moved from Hampden to Winterport—and are so glad they did. Sam also joined the Brewer Kiwanis Make-A-Wish Committee, helping organize their annual gala and volunteering at children’s wish days.
When Sam's children began participating in recreation sports, it became clear the town needed a rec booster group, and Friends of Winterport Rec was formed. All it took was one post, and without hesitation a handful of determined, bright, and kind community members said, “Let’s do it!” Winterport is a wonderful town filled with great people, and she is proud and excited to help support and enrich her community.
"I am a firm believer that kindness and love can be the best medicine."
Kimble Rawclif_1fe, Vice President
Kimble grew up in Winterport and participated in various rec programs from a very young age, including soccer, cross country, basketball, and track. The joy of competition is something that has always stayed with her and she is now a volunteer soccer coach, on the Leadership Committee for Champion the Cure Challenge, and a Junior Achievement volunteer.
“Getting kids active through sports and outdoor activities is not only great for their physical health, but also lays a strong foundation for teamwork, cooperation, and self confidence. Instilling a sense of community pride at an early age is critical to the strength and success of a small town. I loved growing up in Winterport, and it is where I chose to raise my two girls. I see Friends of Winterport Rec as a fantastic opportunity to give back to the town that has given me so much.”
Tara R_1abideau, Secretary
Tara was born in Maine and has lived within 30 miles of Winterport her entire life. As a child, she enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking with her family and continues to enjoy those same activities today with her husband and three sons.
She believes fresh air and sunshine are essential to good health and happiness—whether on the field or in the woods—which led her family to complete the 1,000 Hours Outside challenge. (Tara recommends the 1KHO Podcast).
Because her hometown did not have a high school, Tara recalls that as a freshman, “I felt like a little fish in a big sea.”
Fortunately, access to well-organized recreational and middle school athletics prepared her to earn spots on the varsity softball and soccer teams. Especially meaningful to her was playing soccer with the same group of girls from age 10 to 18.
“I want young athletes to have the same positive experience as me, which is why I enjoy coaching for Winterport Rec (plus it’s super fun). I’m so glad I’ve found like-minded people within FoWR, and can’t wait to see what we do for the community!”
Crys Bruschi_1, Treasurer
Crys grew up on the Maine coast, near Popham Beach. She graduated from Morse High School and received a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Southern Maine. Later, she and her most excellent husband relocated to his hometown of Winterport, where they're raising their amazing twins.
Crys enjoys kayaking, nature photography, gardening, carpentry and, of course, theatre. She also built her own studio-quality recording booth and does remote voice over work.
In the future, she would love to see more recreational opportunities and events in Winterport, which she hopes will help attract more small business owners to the area.
“If you want to foster a sense of community, FoWR is the place to do it. No matter your background or personal strengths, you can absolutely make a difference when working with a team that tackles each new challenge with unrivaled enthusiasm and innovation."
Glen Newey_1, Board Member
Glen grew up on an egg farm in North Winterport and attended Smith School for eight years, before the advent of Kindergarten. He graduated from Hampden Academy in 1977 and completed the Building Construction program at EMVTI (now EMCC) in 1979. He has worked for Versant Power (formerly Bangor Hydro/Emera) for 37 years as engineering support.
Glen says the lack of opportunities in his childhood sparked his passion for youth athletics and recreation, motivating him to help all kids gain access to instructional programs that build confidence and teamwork.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to support coaches across multiple sports and to meet amazing parents and volunteers. Being part of FoWR’s inaugural year has been very rewarding—GREAT people, and we’ve already achieved so much.”
Meg_1an Harvey, Board Member
Megan grew up in Newburgh, where she developed a love for small-town community and a strong sense of belonging. After graduating from college and becoming a nurse, she moved to Winterport, where she and her husband are happily raising their three children.
Sports play a major role in her family’s daily life. Having grown up playing basketball and softball, Megan understands the importance of supporting youth sports. Her family also stays active by taking full advantage of Maine’s outdoor offerings, and she has proudly visited all of Maine’s state parks.
"I am fortunate to be able to give back to our community. Volunteering requires time and effort, but it is certainly satisfying and worthwhile! FoWR is filled with members who similarly want to help others and do what’s best for the town’s people. Team work makes the dream work!"
Brian Fanj_1oy, Board Member
Brian grew up in Corinna and Dexter, ME, graduating from Dexter in 2002. Throughout junior high, he stayed active in football, wrestling, and baseball. He also spent much of his childhood at the Winterport Dragway—first watching his stepfather race drag bikes and his older brother compete in a Jr. Dragster and, at age 12, he began racing a Jr. Dragster himself.
By high school, he had shifted from school sports to racing at Winterport and competing in motocross throughout Maine.
After high school, he attended SMCC in South Portland and earned an Associate Degree in Integrated Manufacturing Technology in 2008. He has since worked in several machine shops and is now a machinist at Sargent Corp. He continued racing motorcycles at the Winterport Dragway and riding motocross throughout his twenties.
Brian met his wife, Samantha, in 2012; they married in 2015 and welcomed their oldest, Rory, in 2016. When it came time to buy a home, they chose Winterport and quickly fell in love with the community. Now, they hope to help Winterport reach its full potential and showcase everything that makes it a great place to live.
