About Us
Supporting Play. Building Community.
Who We Are
Friends of Winterport Rec is a volunteer-run booster club dedicated to supporting and enhancing recreational programs, park facilities, and outdoor spaces in Winterport, Maine.
Our mission is simple: make recreation accessible, fun, and welcoming for all. We host community events and volunteer projects that bring people together and encourage visitors to explore Winterport.
Our Board of Directors
Samantha Fanjoy
President
Samantha grew up in Milo, Maine, where she loved playing sports, especially soccer, as well as playing the clarinet, painting, drawing, and participating in drama club. She earned a degree in Economics with a minor in Business and a certificate in Accounting from UMO. After moving to Winterport with her family, she became active in community service through the Brewer Kiwanis Make-A-Wish Committee and helped launch Friends of Winterport Rec when it became clear the town needed a recreation booster group.
"I am a firm believer that kindness and love can be the best medicine."
Kimble Rawcliffe
Vice President
Kimble grew up in Winterport and participated in rec programs including soccer, cross country, basketball, and track. She remains passionate about the value of athletics and now volunteers as a soccer coach, serves on the Leadership Committee for the Champion the Cure Challenge, and volunteers with Junior Achievement. She sees Friends of Winterport Rec as a way to give back to the town where she grew up and is now raising her two girls.
"Getting kids active through sports and outdoor activities is not only great for their physical health, but also lays a strong foundation for teamwork, cooperation, and self confidence. Instilling a sense of community pride at an early age is critical to the strength and success of a small town."
Tara Rabideau
Secretary
Tara was born in Maine and has lived within 30 miles of Winterport her entire life. She enjoys camping, fishing, and hiking with her family and continues those traditions with her husband and three sons. Her experience in organized youth athletics helped prepare her for high school sports, and she now coaches for Winterport Rec and supports Friends of Winterport Rec to help young athletes have similarly positive experiences.
"I want young athletes to have the same positive experience as me, which is why I enjoy coaching for Winterport Rec."
Crys Bruschi
Treasurer
Crys grew up on the Maine coast near Popham Beach, graduated from Morse High School, and earned a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Southern Maine. She later moved to Winterport with her family, where they are raising twins. Her interests include kayaking, nature photography, gardening, carpentry, theatre, and remote voice over work. She hopes to see more recreational opportunities and events in Winterport that strengthen community and help attract small business owners to the area.
"If you want to foster a sense of community, FoWR is the place to do it. No matter your background or personal strengths, you can absolutely make a difference when working with a team that tackles each new challenge with unrivaled enthusiasm and innovation."
Glen Newey
Board Member
Glen grew up on an egg farm in North Winterport and attended Smith School for eight years before graduating from Hampden Academy in 1977. He completed the Building Construction program at EMVTI in 1979 and has worked for Versant Power for 37 years in engineering support. His childhood experience with limited opportunities shaped his passion for youth athletics and recreation and his commitment to helping kids access programs that build confidence and teamwork.
"I've been incredibly fortunate to support coaches across multiple sports and to meet amazing parents and volunteers. Being part of FoWR’s inaugural year has been very rewarding."
Megan Harvey
Board Member
Megan grew up in Newburgh, where she developed a love for small-town community and belonging. After college and becoming a nurse, she moved to Winterport, where she and her husband are raising three children. Having grown up playing basketball and softball, she understands the importance of supporting youth sports, and her family also enjoys staying active outdoors across Maine.
"I am fortunate to be able to give back to our community. Volunteering requires time and effort, but it is certainly satisfying and worthwhile."
Brian Fanjoy
Board Member
Brian grew up in Corinna and Dexter, Maine, and stayed active in football, wrestling, baseball, drag racing, and motocross from a young age. He earned an Associate Degree in Integrated Manufacturing Technology from SMCC in 2008 and now works as a machinist at Sargent Corp. After marrying Samantha and moving to Winterport, he quickly fell in love with the community and wants to help it reach its full potential through Friends of Winterport Rec.
"Now, they hope to help Winterport reach its full potential and showcase everything that makes it a great place to live."
